Carl Wallnau - Artistic Director-CPAG

Carl Wallnau is currently Artistic Director of the Centenary Stage Company, an equity theatre located on the campus of Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ where he is also Associate Professor of Theatre Arts and Chairman of the Fine Arts Department.

Recent acting credits include Antonio in The Tempest (PSF), Aegeon in Comedy of Errors (PSF), and Monsieur Molenoux in The Ladies Man (CSC). He has directed numerous productions including the world premieres of Inventing Montana, The Tillie Project and The Poetry of Pizza as well as the American premiere of A Laughing Matter and the New Jersey premieres of Below The Belt, Square One, Rounding Third, and Marvin’s Room. Wallnau has been cited for outstanding direction in productions of Springtime for Henry and Quartermaines Terms.

He has worked at numerous regional theatres including Paper Mill Playhouse, Second Stage in NYC, People’s Light, The Lark Theatre, The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Hartford Stage, Bristol Riverside, Forum Theatre, Premiere Stages, Orlando Shakespeare Company, Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, Foothills Playhouse and 14 months on the road with the First National Tour of Titanic.

He received his MFA from Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts and is married to his favorite actress Colleen Smith Wallnau for who he wrote the play Mary Todd... A Woman Apart. The play completed successful runs at Centenary Stage Company in March 2001 and Off-Broadway at the Samuel Beckett theatre on Theatre Row in May 2003. Mary Todd... A Woman Apart is now available for touring.

Catherine Rust - General Manager-Centenary Stage Company, Program Director of the Women Playwrights Series (WPS)

Catherine RustCatherine Rust is the General Manager of the Centenary Stage Company, where she has been a regular staff member since 1993. She also serves as the Program Director for CSC's Women Playwrights Series, one of the only programs of its kind in the nation to consistently take new works by women writers from development stages on to full production.

She is a former member of the acting companies of the Boston Shakespeare Company (under Bill Cain) and New York's Classic Stage Company and was a regular performer with Israel Horowitz' Gloucestor Stage Company, in addition to her work with new playwrights and in television soap opera. She was a past member of the director training staff with ABC, and has taught acting and playwriting with the YPW program. She currently teaches theatre and speech in the Centenary College theatre department. Rust holds her MA in theatre from Montclair State University, and her BA from The University of Minnesota and lives happily with two smart, handsome men (husband and son) on Schooleys Mountain.


Pat Lanciano - Theatre Office Manager

Pat has worked for the Centenary Stage Company since 2007 while attending Centenary College completing her BA in theatre arts concentrating in dance. Pat has trained and studied dance in NYC and NJ. She has an extensive teaching background and has performed in various college dance concerts and theatre productions. Along with her extensive dance background, Pat has worked in several administrative positions that have provided her with office experiences required to manage the theater office. She is also an adjunct instructor in the Centenary Dance Department.

Lea Antolini-Lid - Assistant Program Director

Lea Antolini is a graduate of Brandeis University where she received her MFA in acting. She has performed professionally in NYC and New Jersey as well as regionally on the east coast. Some of her credits include Floyd Collins and States of Independence at American Musical Theatre Works, The Importance of being Ernest at the New Repertory Theatre in Mass, and many recent productions at The Growing Stage Theatre Co, where she also choreographs and teaches.

Lea is an educator in the arts and has taught from ages pre-school to adult. She has taught at Brandeis University, James Madison University, and numerous Montesorri schools in the area. She has worked with various schools in the area developing movement and music programs for young children. Currently she teaches at Centenary College in the theatre department as well as with the YPW program.

Michael Blevins - Director of YPW

Michael Blevins (Young Performers Workshop Director) attended the University of North Carolina, majoring in theatre and dance. He continued his studies in the performing arts at New York University.

He has appeared in several Broadway productions including Bring Back Birdie, Neil Simon's Little Me, and The Tap Dance Kid in which he created the role of Winslow Alexander. He has appeared in the Tony Awards Show, as well as many other television shows, feature films and TV commercials, is widely known for his portrayal of Mark in Sir Richard Attenborough's film A Chorus Line, and is also featured in Chaplin. He is also the director of the new Musical Theatre Works Academy.

He has worked with many noted directors and choreographers, among them Danny Daniels, Bob Fosse, Woody Allen, Vivian Matalon, Joe Layton, Lynn Taylor-Corbett and Peter Gennaro. He has choreographed music videos for Amy Grant, five national commercials as well as the off- Broadway production of The Mad Forrest, and his own show, the Musical Count to Ten at New York's Musical Theatre Works.


Maria Brodeur - Education Director

The Tyro Theatre Program will be led by Maria Brodeur, an actress with experience in children's theatre. Brodeur holds a BA in Theatre & Education from Rutgers University, and studied Meisner Acting Technique in NYC. She taught Drama in the Edison Public School System, "Creating Plays" with Joan Ludwig at Playwrights Theatre, and Master Classes in Audition Technique in the Syracuse, NY area to high school students.

Brodeur has an extensive performance career, including 5 years with the Shoestring Players, as well as performances at Papermill Playhouse, The Bickford Theatre, Chatham Players and The Barn Theatre. While living in the Syracuse area Brodeur was on the Board of Directors for the Fayetteville Playhouse, an Equity summer stock theatre.

Stephen Davis - Teaching Artist

Stephen Michael Davis is an Associate Professor of Theatre Arts at Centenary University, the Program Director for Shakesperience: NJ, and a proud member of Actor's Equity Association.  This season for Centenary University he will direct 1984.  He served as the CSC fight choreographer for Peter Pan, Deathtrap, The Liar, Breakfast with Mugabe, Oliver!, and The Wizard of Oz.  Stephen holds a B.F.A. in acting from The Theatre School at DePaul University, as well as and M.F.A. in directing from USC, where he received the Two Thumbs Up Teaching Award for making a difference in the lives of students with learning disabilities.  While at Centenary, Professor Davis was honored with both the 2014-15 Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award and the 2010 - 2011 United Methodist Exemplary Teaching Award.  He teaches classes to all ages in Shakespeare, stage combat, theatrical make-up, acting, directing, playwriting, video production and movement for the theatre.





Jeff Chase - Technical Director

Jeff grew up in Queens, New York and North Carolina.  After graduating from Greensboro College, Jeff adopted the nomadic life-style of a scenic artesian.  His work took him many places on the East Coast including Virginia's Mill Mountain Theatre, New Jersey's George Street Playhouse and Charlotte North Carolina's Central Piedmont Summer Theatre where he met his wonderful bride, Ashleigh.  Jeff's work with students as the shop supervisor at Catawba College inspired him to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree in hopes of securing a spot in an exciting academic environment.  He traveled west and received his MFA at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and had the opportunity to see the Entertainment Capital of the World from backstage.  After graduate school Jeff ran the scene shop of RSL Theatrical, an events company in Columbus, Georgia.  He engineered scenery construction for clients that included the Atlanta Braves and Falcons, Land of Lakes, the Miss Georgia pageant, Aflac and many others.  The scenery from Jeff's shop has traveled across the United States as far as Hawaii and top businessmen, elite actors and one US President have stood in front of it.  Jeff is excited to join the staff of the Centenary Stage Company

Stephen Wasylean - Assistant Technical Director

Stephen Wasylean is the current assistant technical director here at Centenary University. A semi-recent addition that hails originally from Rhode Island. He has an Associate of Arts degree from Bristol Community College where he was also a work study for the BCC Theatre Rep. His first involvement in theatre was with The Man That Came to Dinner (BCC) in 1993 and he hasn’t stopped since. He finished his BS in theatre design at Roger Williams University in 1997. During this time, he was the resident student technical director at RWU. Within his two-year period at RWU he had his lighting design debut with Do a Good One For the Red Man (RWU) and For Whom the Southern Bell Tolls (RWU). His sound design debut was with the show True West (RWU). His set design debut was with the show Dumb Waiter (RWU). Stephen’s stage management debut was with the show No Exit (RWU). After graduation, Stephen went on to become the resident assistant technical director for Bristol Community College and BCC Theatre Rep where he worked for 25 years. He has also offered his services to various local children’s theatres and high school theatres during this time as well as Spindle City Ballet, Fall River Little Theatre, Marquee Productions, Fall River Symphony Orchestra, and was the lighting director for the Magic of Lyn. As someone who originally went to school for law enforcement, Stephen embodies the idea that you don’t choose theatre, theatre chooses you.  


Christopher Kolwicz - Assistant Technical Director

Graduated from Centenary with a degree in Acting & Technical Theatre. He has worked in a number of theaters and companies all around the New York / New Jersey area, such as: New Jersey Repertory Company, Union County Performing Arts Center, and The Abron Arts Center, as a Master Electrician, Lighting designer, and Tech Director. Focusing mainly on lighting and design, Chris has collaborated with various dance groups, including Burklyn Ballet Theatre where his design work on their production of Aladdin even made its way internationally to the Fringe Festival in Edinburg, Scotland. Recently, he was nominated for Broadway World's Regional Theatre Award for Best Lighting Design with Fair Moon Productions' Mamma Mia!   Centenary Stage Company, however, has always been home to Chris; he is proud to now officially call himself a member of their production team and looks forward to creating many masterful productions with them. Edward R. Matthews - Light Designer

Edward R. Matthews has been the resident lighting designer for several regional theatre companies including Centenary Stage Company since before 1986. Some of his favorite CSC productions include: Dracula, Marvin's Room, Voice of the Prairie, The Innocents and Scotland Road.

Ed has worked with the Theatre Series at William Paterson University (WPUNJ) in Wayne, N. J. as well as a served as a freelance director and designer in the NY Metropolitan area. In the summer of 2001 he directed a production of Little Shop of Horrors in the 950 seat Shea Center . Other WPUNJ directing credits include: Lysistrata, Fires in the Mirror, Company and The Crucible in Shea and in the more intimate Hunziker Black Box Theatre he has directed Boys' Life, Death Defying Acts, All in the Timing and Sylvia.

He has designed the lighting for most productions at WPUNJ since 1986 and the scenery for many too, including: Frankenstein, The Grapes Of Wrath, Pippin and The Heidi Chronicles. Mr. Matthews serves as the faculty advisor to both the Pioneer Players, the student sponsored theatre club, and to the University's chapter of Alpha Psi Omega. He also serves the National Theatre Honor Society as a director, as an actor and as a lighting designer.

In 2001 he performed in a NYC showcase of sketch comedy called Broad Humor and directed an original script entitled, Like Bees To Honey by NJ playwright Andrea Green and designed the lighting for Meet Me in St. Louis at Hofstra University on Long Island. He has a long standing relationship with Hofstra where he recently directed Crossing Delancey and where he has designed the lighting for many shows including: Into The Woods, Maury Yeston's Phantom and Guys And Dolls.

Ed also has ongoing relationships as lighting designer with several other New Jersey companies including: the Forum Theatre of Metuchen and the Bickford Theatre of Morristown. Mr. Matthews holds several degrees in theatre including an MFA in Acting and Directing from Sarah Lawrence College

Ashleigh Poteat - Costume Design

Ashleigh Poteat (Costume Designer) is resident costumer designer and faculty for Centenary University as an assistant professor in the Fashio Studies program.  Ashleigh has designed costumes and scenery for regional theaters in New Jersey, New York, Florida, Nevada and North Carolina.  She has also designed Off - Broadway productions, including the World Premiere New Light Theatre Project and 5000 Broadway co-production of A Burial Place.  She earned her MFA from the University of Nevada - Las Vegas after attending the University of North Carolina at Ashevill for Drama Production.





Christopher Young- Marketing/Publicity Manager

Christopher J. Young is an M.F.A. graduate from The Professional Actor Training Program at Ohio University.  While at OU Chris performed in several main stage and studio productions including, Holiday, Proof, Diana of Dobson, The Idiot, Spike Heels and the world premiere workshop of War is F**king Awesome by NYC’s "geek chiq"  theater company Vampire Cowboys.  Chris spent two summer seasons, 2010 and 2012, as a company actor with the Monomoy Theatre in Chatham, Massachusetts.  In 2011 he was as a resident actor at the Oxford Shakespeare Festival in Oxford, Mississippi and as the title character for Valley Young Company’s production of Hamlet in New Brunswick, Canada. 

At CSC Chris was seen in productions of Quartermaine’s Terms, The Liar, Harvey, The Nether, Start Down and The Learned Ladies.  Chris is an alumnus of Centenary College where he earned a B.A. in Theater with a concentration in Acting and continues to work professionaly throughout the tri-state area.  For more information visit:

Victoria Pulido - Marketing and Administrative Intern

Victoria R. Pulido is an alumni of Centenary University where she holds a BA in Theatre Arts: Dance. As an Administrative Intern, Victoria performs daily operations, patron relations, and creates/designs posters, postcards, and programs for CSC events. Additionally, Victoria assists with social media marketing and supervises the Centenary Stage Company Instagram page. She has been working with Centenary Stage Company in various capacities for the past 6 years. She Assistant Stage Managed CSC’s summer production of Hair, has been involved with the Young Audience Series working as Tour Manager and has been an instructor with Centenary Stage Company’s Young Performers Workshop, teaching dance (tap, jazz, theatrical), box office classes, as well as, choreographed the YPW production of Miss Nelson has a Field Day. She also Assistant Directed/Choreographed alongside YPW’s Michael Blevins for two seasons. Victoria has worked with The Walt Disney Company in Orlando, Florida from 2015 – 2018 and light designed Fiddler on the Roof at the Amelia Musical Playhouse in Amelia Island, Florida. She is currently enrolled in Centenary’s School of Professional Studies working towards her Social Media Marketing Certification.

Trevor Callahan - Marketing and Administrative Intern

Trevor Callahan is a Technical Theater student at Sussex Community College. In addition to working in technical theatre, Trevor has acted in plays and musicals, and performed on live television in the 2015 Freddy Awards opening and closing numbers. Trevor also worked with Kids in Motion (K.I.M) to coach pre-school children recreational programs such as kickball and teaching educational dance activities to build kids’ confidence. As an Administrative Intern at Centenary Stage Company, Trevor was able to use his three years of retail/customer service experience in a the box office. Throughout the internship, he has assisted in daily operations, patron relations, community outreach and assisted in the design and creation of marketing materials for mailings and advertisement.
